Mobile Home installers and transport in France
Transport – Transporting mobile homes requires specialist trucks. You cannot tow (most) mobile homes on public roads as they are designed to do a maximum of around 10 mph and have no lights or indicators. Transport is normally organized by a specialist agency such as BCT Freight, or you could go direct to a local haulier but make sure they have the gear to move mobile homes safely. Mobile homes in transit are normally covered by the transporters insurance which is important as their favourite tricks can be to bend the chassis when securing it to the truck and drive under bridges that are just not high enough for the van! You should get an ‘etat de lieu’ or damage evaluation before the unit is transported and then check it on delivery. As a guide, delivery starts at around £500 for a local job and rises by around £350 for each department or county border crossed. Within Europe you can add about another £600 for each international border crossed.
Installation – DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL YOUR OWN MOBILE HOME. Installing mobile homes is dangerous and has resulted in death when attempted by ill-equipped and un-qualified people. Call an established mobile home installations company and avoid the risk. There are not as many as there used to be in France but you can still find them.
